Currently waiting on a class to start, but I improved the wings. I'll post the variations soon and tell me if certain things should be thicker, thinner, inverted, etc. Yay critiques!

Would you rather it look more like the Batman symbol wings or are these what you were going for?

I just got a scanner, so now I can upload HD versions of my preferred medium: hand drawn pen/pencil. Expect more of that! I'd upload my first scanned artwork, but it has nudity (kind of). Gotta keep this site clean!!

What gets me every time is the knowledge that he considers each Robin as his own son, which makes that tale more heartbreaking.

I sketched out some images of an original character of mine. The top is my own art style and the bottom is in the style of the legendary Bruce Timm (responsible for the classic Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League cartoons, Batman Beyond, and more). I've always said I take a piece from each artist that I've idolized as a kid, so I wanted to test that out and see if I could recreate one of theirs.

It's crazy how different a person's taste and way of doing things can be. I pretty much used the shows and movies this man helped create as a bible into how I'd see these heroes move and act. I used to have tons of coloring books and comic versions of stories from the shows based on his art style and trace them (very crudely, but then again I was like 6 years old). This dude made Superman awesome to me. He made sure that the invincible Kryptonian god was treated more realistically (dampening his power levels so that even minor villains could at least give him a challenge longer than one minute) and respectfully.

I wanted to share these because I'm honestly very proud of how they turned out. I almost always hate my own work for one minor reason or another, so that's saying a lot.

actually, not (completely) being a jackass here...

it would probably be a fun exercise to draw the same guy in the same pose full body shot 8 times from 45° angles from eachother. then you could stitch them together to make it look like he's rotating... then fill in 8 more... then 16 more... and at that point you might be buttery smooth.

the first 8 would look something like:

start small and defined and the problem is a lot easier than "1000 different images"

This is also how I approach writing. Can confirm; works well.

I'm trying to improve my digital painting skills. I was happy with my lighting in this one.

Cool. The eyes look off to me and I don't know why. Maybe with some lighting/glow on the adjacent features they'd look more real, for lack of a better word.

Good point. I think the eyes aren't quite level, actually. I'll have to try and align them a little better.

I like the atmosphere of this one a lot, it's thick and powerful. What McStab and you both said about the eyes seems to ring true, but everything else is enjoyable.

Hands are one of my least favorite things to draw. I'm currently creating my comic for a class (just the first issue) and was super proud of this shot. It's just a hand holding a small piece of paper up, but I've come a long way with hands in the past few months. It's a big deal for me, guys!

Looks great! I don't think I'll ever be able to improve on drawing hands. I still make them look like everyone is wearing misformed baseball gloves.
