The final chapter?
Does anyone thing there will be any more assassins games after this or will 3 be the last? The only next time period I can foresee would be WW2 or possibly current time?
Patrice Desole always planned a trilogy, but considering how Ubisoft is whoring itself out year after year, I would say that there might be more games in the near future...
There are several other time periods that Ubisoft has said they want to explore.
However, these cannot fit with Desmond's storyline.
Therefore, they will most likely be released as random gameplay DLC in a pack, OR they will make a new series that is not the Desmond story. (Assassin's Creed Neo)
Why did it have to end this way?
They're stressing the fact that this is "ending the Desmond story". Also, they've said before ACR even came out that they'll be continuing the AC games after Desmond because of all the historical options they'd have.

It'll almost certainly continue with a new modern day protagonist/ storyline after Desmond. I wish AC could last forever...
