Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Nightmare Difficulty
Timed Epic Ship: The Black Wind (Event)
Targets: Alpha Light Trireme (Boss) with two other ships (Additionals).

I'm not much of a Naval guy, but I figure it's good to have at least a bit of high-level, maximum-difficulty Naval Gameplay on this website.

Naval in Odyssey handles and controls more smoothly than the previous games, feeling a lot more arcade-y and game-y, and even less simulated. You can move your ship around very comfortably, for the most part, and both attacking and defending are quick to access without much delay between actions. Boosting in order to temporarily move faster is easy to use, and so is turning, and ramming enemy ships.

At high difficulties, without having an upgraded ship, a player can be torn asunder very quickly, and even when maxed out, the biggest difference between this game and previous iterations of Naval is how Unbraced (Not Blocked) Damage is handled. It was possible not to Brace against damage in Black Flag, Rogue, Origins, and still live, but doing so in this game, even against normal enemy ships will savage your health-bar horribly. Blocking is even more important in this game, and so is picking the right moments to fire back.

[Overview] The 3 Styles - Assassin, Hunter, Warrior

AC Odyssey allows you to select a playstyle you enjoy and get extremely powerful within it. Someone asked me, "Should I favor Warrior (Open Combat) or Assassin (Stealth)? What kind of character should I prefer? What is the Best way to play this game?"

This is what I told him:

The best way to play, is to make sure your actions resonate with the playstyle you've chosen.
Any build you choose can be good. But if you play that "style" wrong, it will be very bad.

Maybe you're a sniper or a ranged weapon fellow who loves to shoot people and click heads.
Maybe you're a ninja who likes to harvest entire compounds without being noticed, stabbing people and cutting throats.
Maybe you're a badass fighter who gets a rush out of taking on entire hordes of enemies.

They can all be powerful, and they can all win.

However, whichever one you choose, you should put in the time, effort and knowledge to get good at that.
I'm playing Assassin on Nightmare Mode, and I can still win fights. I just have to play the right way, play cleverly, and use what the game is giving me in order to come out on top. If I don't squeeze out every bit of potential my build can give me, I will die because I'm not really set up for direct confrontation.

If you have a lot of Assassin Skills, you should prioritize trying to stay in Stealth as much as you can, because that's where you're going to be strongest. When you fight, you should fight very dirty and dishonest, and do huge damage to the most dangerous enemy in a group so you can deal with everyone else more easily.

If you have a lot of Warrior skills, those are going to waste if you're not fighting people, so you should try to brawl enemies as often as possible.

And if you're spamming Hunter Skills every time you Level Up but you never actually shoot anyone, you're not using the investment you've made and your powerful Arrows are just sitting in their quiver doing nothing.

I enjoy playing Assassin the most, so that's the kind of character I've built. From my perspective, that's the best way for ME to play this game, but other people might enjoy something different. Someone else I know has a lot of Warrior Skills and is practically a Pyromancer with their weapons burning people to ashes and doing lots of Damage Over Time, and another person I know uses Hunter Damage with Devastating Shot to take down really hard targets.

Ask yourself what feels interesting to you, and get REALLY good at that. That's the best way to play.

A quick showcase of the Pacifist/Target Only playstyle in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, mostly empowered by the Assassin Tree. Paralytic Arrows from Hunter Tree are great, too, but I don't show these. This has got my narration and commentary over top of it, for extra context on why I take certain actions, and additional explanation of various events.

The fastest I've been able to kill the target. Had to sacrifice a small amount of time because of a smoke bomb. Sometimes you can reach him before getting fully detected, but I'm not patient enough to keep on trying.

Lafreniére Stunt Assassination

Apologies for the background sound. I was ignorant to the fact that my earphones had a mic.

To set up a stealthy stunt assassination from the nearby tower, you'll have to take out some of the guards nearby.

Catch Ledge / Ledge Grab

Holding High Profile High profile trigger, TAP Parkour Down Empty hand button a single time just before touching the wall.
There must be a viable handhold at the spot Arno impacts, and the timing window for it is roughly like a Sword-Counter from AC1.

A video on the philosophy and meaning behind the ledge-grab / catch ledge ability in the Assassin's Creed franchise, its importance and why it matters so much to the people who miss it, capping off with explaining how to actually perform this move in Assassin's Creed Unity. I think this move should be brought back, as should at-will side ejects and at-will back ejects. Movement is lifeless and stagnant in the new Assassin's Creed games, and for a franchise about transcending the arbitrary rules put forth not by gods, but men, new AC Movement "Systems" make me feel more like I'm painting inside the lines than breaking out of social norms and flowing through an environment as I see fit.

Took a while to put this together because I got a lot of requests for this. I'm pretty sure all of TheHiddenBlade veterans will know about these already, though. Tongue Just posting here so the site gets this content. I did leave out certain items and abilities because I found them largely irrelevant to my own gameplay, but there might be some kind of follow-up vid where I collect additional information. We'll see how it goes.

On the beauty and tragedy of Assassin's Creed Unity, its pros and cons, and a few ways we can learn from it moving forward.

AC Unity is an interesting game because whenever you bring it up, inevitably there will be people who say how much they enjoy just wandering around the open world. And as someone who’s now done a fair bit of that for stress relief and for video purposes, I’ve done some thinking as to why.

Unity has more problems than any other game in the franchise, to this day. Ask a bunch of different people and you’ll get different answers as to whether the game is “fixed” or not. For some people, performance issues remain, for others, bugs are still very much alive, and for others still those things were never really their concern, but rather the problems inherent to the game that can never ever be repaired, and we just have to live with. As someone who struggled just to find a way to eventually appreciate this game for all the dim light I saw deep down in its broken shell, I can’t look away from those problems, but as the person who did learn to appreciate it, scars and all, I have to make note of its positives. You hear that? You feel it? That’s called character-development.

Unity is at its absolute best when it evokes a certain feeling. When a player can say and truly mean, “As an agent of the Assassin Brotherhood, my awareness of my surroundings borders on superhuman, and I have a Response to every possible Situation…” This feeling of player-ownership, of responsibility over your gameplay, of being accountable for your successes and failures, is why people love Unity the way they do.

Another video is coming up that talks about Advanced Movement in Assassin's Creed, how it ties into collectibles, and how it should, and finally, ways Ubisoft can teach advanced gameplay in future titles that make them more interesting for newcomers and veterans alike. See you then.

The False Oracle - Stylish Overpower Kill

For the first assassination mission in the game (The False Oracle, target Medunamun) I decided to test out the overpower attack using a perk that allows you to have full adrenaline at the start of combat.

How Adrenaline and Overpower Abilities Work
During combat you build adrenaline. When it gets full you can use an overpower ability by pressing the buttons for light attack and heavy attack at the same time (PS3 R1 button/PS3 R2 button or Xbox right bumper/Xbox right trigger). Depending on what type of weapon Bayek is holding there are two overpower abilities: a devastating attack that does massive damage; or fury mode, which enhances Bayek's combat.

Stylish Overpower Kill
Climb to the top of the temple and wait for Medunamun and his two goons to head for the entrance. The route he takes is random, but I've found that when he heads to the main building, he'll also take that route at least the next few times you restart the checkpoint. Think his route might depend on what time of the day it is.

Now for taking him and his goons out with little opposition. I start out with an air takedown on the guy in the front, followed by the overpower attack on the target (and since he's right behind the first guy, I'm just about guaranteed he'll be the one it's performed on since the ability targets the closest enemy). I actually had to upgrade my current weapon the fan ax to wipe out the target's health in one hit.
