Is anybody else even mildly interested in Sony's new portable console, codenamed NGP? Reports suggest that it will be more reasonably-priced than previous Sony consoles (namely the PSP Go).

Sony are, hopefully, planning on rivalling the Nintendo 3DS and they've said that the launch price will be 'affordable', whatever that means. With a touch screen, trophy support, several good-looking launch titles, and Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, if the price is right, I'm definitely in. Anyone else? Smile

Update

Sony has now annoucned the NGP as PlayStation Vita (Vita is Latin for Life) along with the prices for different regions. There are two models; a WiFi only model and a more expensive WiFi + 3G model. Prices are as follows:

US - $249 or $299

Europe - €249 or €299

Japan - ¥24,980 or ¥29,980

UK - £229 or £279 (Play.com prices)

The US/Japan prices aren't too bad and I know a lot of the American market will be pleasantly surprised with that price. I'm a little disappointed with the UK price but I suppose it's to be expected when considering tax, extra shipping/production prices etc. I really want the 3G model but I'm reluctant to pay more for a portable device than what I paid for my PS3.

Any thoughts now that the name and prices have been released? Smile

I'm pretty interested in this too. If it's capable of doing everything you just mentioned, with a price around (or possibly under) $200, I'll most likely get it if I have money.

I'm glad someone is with me Smile I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it on the site yet as it was first unveiled on 27th January.

In fact, I haven't seen too much about it at all, considering I've been keeping a vague lookout since hearing about the possibility of a PSP2 but more information seems to be coming out now.

Predicted prices have varied from anywhere between $150 (much too low IMO) and $598 (based on a quote from Sony that it will cost less than the PS3 launch price of $599 Tongue). I think it's most likely to cost between $300 and $400 tbh - about £200-250. I'd love it to be less but I think I'd still pay that, depending on reviews, launch title quality etc. Smile

Sony's been tanking on so many projects lately. PS Move went down the drain fairly quickly (not saying Kinect is better but Microsoft did a much better job marketing it than Sony did with Move), and the PS GO was one of the worst handheld devices ever made.

I know the PSP was received pretty well, but it couldn't even hold a candle to the DS upon its release. Why is Sony trying to force things? I don't see how the PSP2 will be able to keep pace with the 3DS, especially considering the 3DS is roughly $50-$100 cheaper.

That's what they consider "affordable"? Sorry, I guess I have a different definition. (Although it would be fun to have a handheld; my only one is a Gameboy Advance SP!) Perhaps I would need to know more about the games for it.

Also, LOL at FLAE's sig. Big smile

It is quite expensive but it seems you have to pay a lot for a decent console these days, even a handheld one. $250 is a lot but it's better than the $300-400 that some were suggesting. The US price is alot better than the UK price at least - $250 equates to about £150 but we'll have to pay a lot more than that! Sad

Some of the games do look quite good (LBP and Uncharted especially) but I too expect to see more before I commit to buying. The touchscreen and rear touch pad look very cool but I'm still not fully sold. If it was £150, I'd preorder right now but it's the price that is holding me back. Sony are still making a loss on each unit though. Tongue

And yeah, I've just noticed FLAE's sig. Brilliant Big smile

Assassin's Creed game announced for PS Vita, with new characters and and a new storyline. Nothing more than that for now but here's the proof:

idk about it i mean it looks nice but i'll pass

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which

"All new characters" better not mean a new Assassin. It should be a new one every main game, not with a portable entry. Hopefully it's another taste of Altair or one of the comic book Assassins. Or, God willing, any of the Assassins in the Monterrigioni Sanctuary.

New characters to me meant a new assassin but I know what you mean - a portable title will not be a good way to introduce a new main character. Still, I've never played a portable AC game and I'm still interested in the PS Vita so this could be something to look at for me.

"New characters" can still mean new secondary characters. That's what I'll bet my money on.

Yeah I would prefer that really. I'm interested to see what they're going to do after Revelations.

The PS Vita launches in Europe and the US on Wednesday and I'm still toying with the idea of preordering one. Amazon have got a decent bundle for the WiFi version: £209.99 + Free 8GB Memory Card + £15 Game.

I must admit, that price tempts me but I have a holiday to pay for and, with exams coming up, I really don't need more games to play.

I really want one though! Tongue
