I didn't play the first one. 1st person shooters typically aren't my thing, but I decided to rent the second one. But...before I get past the, "how the hell do I do this?" training screen, should I do the first one first...is the story worth it?

Here's to you as good as you are. Here's to me as bad as I am. As bad as I am, and as good as you are, I'm as good as you are, as bad as I am.

In my opinion the story of CoD4 was amazing and MW2 followed it up very well. CoD4 can be very detailed story wise, but it can also be summarized very quickly when only the basics are told.

I personally would rent the first one first to get to know the characters and what has happened in detail, but if 1st person shooters aren't your thing and completing the first game is going to seem more like a chore than anything else i would simply find out the story of the first on the internet and just play MW2 straight away.

If you didn't like Fallout 3 I don't think you'll like MW2 very much but all the luck to ya.

Well, the plot is kinda silly. But there certainly are alot of thrilling moments in there. It's not what's happening. it's how it's happening. It's really the multiplayer that is the star of the show, however. I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I did. Had zero experience playing online shooters with a controller, so I completely sucked at it at first, but when you actually start to get the hang of it, it's ridiculously addictive. However, if you're only interested in the singleplayer, I'd go for the first modern warfare. It's a tad better, only because MW2 feels like an endless barrage of wow moments, which sometimes feels out of place and sometimes even like a big joke.

Hmm...well I do feel like I'm picking up the story halfway through. I'll send this one back and rent the first one and see how I do. Who knows? If I feel bad ass enough, maybe I'll experiment with the multi-player thing. It's not out of my realm of experience anyway Smile Thanks guys.

The story of MW is way better than in MW2 IMO but the levels in MW2 are more enthralling and fast-paced, if that makes sense. The two games are very similar and there is almost no difference in gameplay as its pretty much as everyone wants it anyway.

I don't really think people play these games for the story (like many AC players do) as the multiplayer and ability to shoot anyone in sight are more appealing to many gamers but I quite like the stories. You may as well try the first one as its pretty good and you can get it for about £10 now on eBay Smile

If you play games for the story, AC's isn't bad, and MW is also not bad, but the Metal Gear Solid story beats any other game's by a long shot (at least in my opinion).

the only problem with MGS story is that its too complicated, you have to play all games to understand it. I had to search for copies of the original Metal Gears just to get the hang of the first MGS.

As to MW, the first one is the best by aa longshot IMO, but I recognize the second is more thrilling.

Basically, MW = Better story, MW2 = Better action and more thrilling fight sequences IMO
