IMO this list is horribly put together, but who am I to judge? Gamesradar lists the greatest games of all time. Here are some notable comments I have on the list, however:

-Minecraft was
the last game in at #100, which is fair I think
-Tomb Raider only hit #80, which is fairly obsurd
-Gran Turismo III is listed, but Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II (voted the greatest racing game of all time) is nowhere on the list.
-SUPER SMASH BROS. IS ONLY #72? WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING GR?!?!?
-AND TEAM FORTRESS 2 IS ONLY #71? OH MY *ahem, sorry* oh my god, c'mon son...
-Prince of Persia is ranked #61, which I'm impartial to. It had some falling outs, but Sands of Time was a masterpiece of puzzle games.
-I have never played them, but Final Fantasy is only ranked #60, and that's sure to make Asaic rage his brains out...
-I am extremely pleased that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 made the list, but the fact that it didn't crack the Top 50 (#51) makes me slightly sad.
-MGS3 Snake Eater got in at #49. Could have gone a little higher, I think.
-The Assassin's Creed Series got in at #47, which is a pretty good place for it. It's still got some growing up to do, especially following Brotherhood...
-Thank goodness Gears of War beat out God of War
-HALO 3 IS ONLY NUMBER #41? WHERE WERE YOU IN 2007 WHEN THIS GAME LITERALLY STOPPED SOCIETY IN ITS TRACKS SO THAT PEOPLE WOULD PLAY IT? FOR GOD'S SAKES, THE WEEK IT CAME OUT WE NEVER WENT OUTSIDE. THIS GAME WAS LIFE-CHANGING! Okay, I'm calmer now. But in all seriousness, though it wasn't terribly revolutionary, this game was unbelievable, and it deserves top 15 at least
-Silent Hill is #36... not sure about that one. Scariest game ever (next to Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly) in addition to one of the best stories ever seen in a game. Probably should be higher.
-Left 4 Dead is #34, another game I have never played (probably should have) that most would say deserves to be way higher.
-GTA: San Andreas changed everything about games. And I mean everything. #30 may seem high, but this game deserves better than that. The graphics may have been horrible, but everything else about this game was astounding.
-Now here's the one that really pisses me off. Not only does this list say Twilight Princess was better than Ocarina of Time, but Wind Waker is ranked the #5 greatest game of all time. Ask anybody that has ever played video games and they will all tell you the same thing: "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" is the greatest single piece of gaming ever created.
-Pokemon is #26. No. Absolutely not. As soon as I saw this I laughed out loud. I still play the damn thing and I'm 26 years old. Not only was this series revolutionary towards RPGs, but it defined a whole generation of children and took over a world. The only time I have ever cried playing a video game was when I defeated Red at the conclusion of Pokemon Crystal. That was when I was 16 years old and starting on a varsity football team. I felt like such a wuss, but I didn't care, I was so happy and sad at the same time. I knew my childhood was over at that point, but that nostalgia rush I had the whole ride through playing that game is something I will never forget. But even without my sappy (and probably unnecessary, sorry about that) story, the game is the highest selling RPG ever. It deserves top 5 at least.
-Metal Gear Solid got beat out by Modern Warfare. I want to punch this list-maker in the face. Call of Duty set the tone for terrible FPS games for years to come. MGS created and defined the stealth genre, not to mention had a critically acclaimed story. Get out.
-Even though it was only by one spot, its good that Starcraft II beat out Modern Warfare or else there would have been a sh*tstorm the likes of which the internet has never seen.
-Super Mario Galaxy beat Super Mario 64 by 11 spots, fair or foul?
-Red Dead Redemption is too high. Even though it was one of my favorites there have been so many other great games that outshine this one. Top 30-35 for sure, but #15 is too high for this game.
-Ugh, I hate Uncharted because it makes PS3 fanboys pee all over themselves, but I guess it deserves #11. Not ahead of BioShock, however, which fell to #12 right behind it.
-Kicking off the top 10 with Mass Effect was a good decision, though it might be a little better than Super Metroid (but not Half Life 2)
-Shadow of the Colossus was deserving of a top 10 spot, and in my opinion is should have been ahead of Super Mario, even though Super Mario is probably the most successful game franchise of all time.
-GTA IV is #4 on this list? Don't get me wrong, this game was absolutely amazing, and its the best open-world game of all time, but it is definitely not one of the greatest games ever by any means.
-It says "Fact: Chrono Trigger is the best damn RPG of all time." Fiction. I've played it. It's quality. It's not Pokemon. Pokemon is the best RPG of all time, you can blame me for nostalgia or whatever, but its the highest selling RPG game ever and loved by almost everyone who's ever picked up a Game Boy. It deserves to switch places with Chrono Trigger at #3.
-Portal is #1. I have never played it, so I can't judge. But most people are happy with this pick. I will say, though, that I was hoping Ocarina of Time would be #1 when I first saw the article, so I was slightly disappointed.

In the end, I would like to point out that "007: Goldeneye," "Rachet & Clank," "Jak & Daxter," "Sly Cooper," and "Perfect Dark," are nowhere to be found. Some may be less important and just some of my favorites, but you can't deny that Goldeneye has to be somewhere on this list.

Thoughts?

I personally feel games lists, especially massive ones like the greatest 100 games ever, just do not work. There's just too many variables and most of the games can't be compared with each other properly IMO.

However, even considering that, I must agree that this list is a load of crap Stare

I have a hard time putting too much stock in a list that excludes 007: Goldeneye. That game single-handedly kicked off the multiplayer craze for shooter games. It also had possibly the best replayability of any FPS game that I can remember. That game was the only reason I wanted a Nintendo 64.

I'm also disappointed by the low ranking for Ocarina of Time. That game was epic as far as RPGs go. I'm not a huge fan of RPGs in general (which is amazing considering I love the AC series), but this was the first RPG I truly liked. It was the first game that took me away from my steady diet of sports games.

This list also makes me curious as to what everyone's top ten favorite games ever are. I'm not concerned with what the greatest engines and graphics are, but what are you favorite games of all time to play?

My List:
1. Goldeneye
2. NBA Jam
3. Double Dribble
4. Ocarina of Time
5. AC Series
6. Punch Out
7. Police Quest and King's Quest Series (pretty much identical series, just different settings - thanks for the variety Sierra)
8. GTA III
9. Worms
10. Max Payne

I already love you. NBA Jam was amazing (Chicago resident and #1 Michael Jordan fan right here) but a sports game would never make this list, and thats depressing (especially considering Madden 2004 won game of the year in 2003).

That being said, NBA 2K11 should be on a top 100 list too, but again, there's no love for sports games...

I believe he means for outright start, Counter Strike just consolidated it as online gold.
I felt pretty much the same with this list, and the excuse to call them "best" it's not enough. I think the little fanboy in me wanted to punch someone when I saw Wind Waker in the top 5. I mean it was good but not really.
One more thing, FLAE, you are coming to the dark side.

Nothing FLAE, never mind. Did RES2 made the list? I didn't think I saw it anywhere.

Resident Evil 4 was on the list somewhere, I think it was top 20.

Also I heard they were making a remake of Resi4 for XBLA in honor of the 15th anniversary of the saga. Hoax or greatest news ever?

I've never played Counter-Strike. Actually never heard of it (sorry).

I'm still interested to see what everyone else's Top 10 would look like.

Glad to see you like Silent Hill, one of my first games owned and was by the far the scariest game I have ever played, hell probably the only scary game I have played. I hope you will agree that the music for both the game and the movie was really well done, it made the atmosphere, kinda like how MGS1 had that scary music as well. I would be interested where MGS1 ranked.

I still play GTA SA, just stopped playing it around 2 hours ago actually. Im still finding loads of fun stuff to do and me and some guys on GTAForums are still finding new gang war glitches. I mean come on the map is huge, the amount of easter eggs hidden around the game probably surpasses MGS, and the optional RPG elements were a nice touch. Also the map was so varied, even the cities felt different. You have LA, San Francisco, a huge countryside to got lost in, a desert with loads of stuff to explore, and Los Vegas as well.

GTA 4 ranked at number 4?!?!?!?!

I still cant get over how it got 10/10 by most reviewers. Sure it had good graphics, controls and realism, but the whole atmosphere and fun factor ( the most important factor) was so low, I never felt a need to go out and explore or get 100%, in fact as the game progressed I used the taxi to skip the trips as it felt like a damn chore, I just wanted to finish that shit. Like ACB, I havent touched it since....

The Smithsonian Museum of American Art has been putting together an exhibition of video game art for display from March through September next year. Earlier this year, they canvassed opinions online for the best 80 games to include in the exhibit. The games are divided by era and game system.

I must say, I was really pleased to see my two most favorites, Okami and Shadow of the Colossus on the final list. Also Flower, which is a really lovely game.

All in all, it's a way more interesting list than Gamesradar's list.

Worms made it for N64! What a great game that was. That kept me busy for hours at a time in college. Great way to talk crap before you could play online.
