So after watching the E3 presentations so far, I'm still thinking Kinect/Natal is just a gimmick. Microsoft has not shown me a lot to convince me otherwise, although I will admit the lightsaber thing seems somewhat fun, but otherwise, unless something really amazing comes along, I won't be buying it. What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks to SBIzokronus for the fantastic sig!

Well, of course it's a gimmick. The real question is how good of a gimmick it'll be. I might get it later, maybe sometime after Christmas.

The fact that the new Xbox 360 will come with Wifi built in as well as kinect built in means if I sell my unit and wifi connector soon and go without gaming for a little while I can get this new one for virtually free since the price is so low. Also, the fact that now I can watch sports directly from my 360 is a HUGE plus for me.

You guys seem very unconvinced, I'm almost certain that kinect is going to finally make the separation between the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The 360 this year is going to be absolutely amazing.

If the face, voice and movement recognition is really accurate and there is very little input lag, this thing could be truly great. Wii gave us mere glimpses of the raw potential, but came up fairly short in execution. Microsoft has had over three years to improve the formula.

My prediction is that either this gen (Kinect, Move) or next will finally bring us some seriously accurate VR-esque controls (think Minority Report without the gloves), and that that is the ultimate direction that video games are headed. I see all this motion control business as a stepping stone in that evolutionary path. We'll see. Smile

I expect Kinect to be pretty sophisticated but to suffer from some level of inaccuracy (in all areas) and have distinct input lag. I also expect its successor to be much better in those regards.

It's sounding like Move is more accurate than Wii' Motion+, but that still isn't saying much. It doesn't seem to offer anything over Motion+ other than increased accuracy, at least so far. My money's on Kinect for being the best of the three, but still not the must-have that it potentially could have been.

I don't feel that Kinect or Move are gimmicky as there is a lot of potential in both (as there was with Wii). But I think people are still too burned out over Wii to be willing to give these new options a try. Sales might hurt.
