I'm actually quite surprised that people are not having more fun with this subject. Most ppl have heard of the Freemasons, The Illuminati, many secret societies that are suspected of trying to create a 'New World Order'. Everytime I watch a show on Angels and Devils, or The Davinci Code, it brings me back to this game and even more so with references to the Kennedy Assassination, Hitler, Ford...etc...

I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories, find most of them ridiculous...but they are fun to listen to.

So I'm sure some ppl out there have some fun stories about the conspiracy theories they've heard of. For example, how 9/11 was US Govt contrived using explosives and military planes.

Here's to you as good as you are. Here's to me as bad as I am. As bad as I am, and as good as you are, I'm as good as you are, as bad as I am.

One of my personal favorites is a well known conspiracy theory: New World Order

"This conspiracy theory claims that a small group of international elites controls and manipulates governments, industry and media organizations worldwide. The primary tool they use to dominate nations is the system of central banking. They are said to have funded and in some cases caused most of the major wars of the last 200 years, primarily through carrying out false flag attacks to manipulate populations into supporting them, and they have a grip on the world economy, deliberately causing inflation and depressions at will. Operatives working for the New World Order are said to be placed in high positions in government and industry."

Ok, I was a big conspiracy nut for a time, convinced that the NWO was lurking everywhere, back then I supported the theory that the Bush government staged 9/11 themselves, that it was just an excuse for the Iraq war. However I veered off this completly when I read people blaming some of the firefighters as being involved, which is quite sick and not thinking of the feelings of the families.

Well, mine is similar to the New World Order.
It's about a secret society, or maybe not so secret, called Bildenberg.
The Bildenberg Group is formed by the biggest companies in the world, like Coca-Cola, Google, Nintendo, and some powerful governments like the one of the United States, the Commonwealth and the European Union, and the UN of course. They are supposed to be taking over all of the companies in the world to take over the global economy and then force the rest of the companies and governments to give up and have global domination.

Bilderberg! Yeah and they have major top secret meetings every year, with press blackouts and hired goons menacing anyone who trys to take a picture.

Do you think they get together once a year just to brag about their yachts and how many cosmetic surgies their wives have had and just laugh at the rest of us lowlings thinking their plotting to take over the world? I think one of the funniest conspiracy theories is that president Barack Obama was born in Kenya. His parents were present for their final exams at University of Hawaii in May of 1961 (according to school records). These people believe that a seven month pregnant woman then flew halfway around the world so she could give birth in a country with inferior healthcare.

It must have been the Templars who planted birth announcements in the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Wink

Because it would involve hundreds of people, working in secrecy since 1961, to falsify documents about his place of birth and other facts from his early life. As if they knew in advance that he would run for president someday and would require U.S. citizenship.

It's not just me who calls it a conspiracy theory. The Wikipedia article is titled Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories.

That's the prove, wiki is just not capable of being trusted. But maybe, it is just an illusion that the Templars made, maybe after they took care of Tesla's network, they kept the concept and then in the 80s released Internet to give information that will only distract people from fionding the truth. Then Wikipedia it's the next name on my list, oh wait... how will I destroy a network page if I don't know anything 'bout hacking?

There is a difference but you can't see it unless the whole topic gets promoted to the front page. When you enter a comment at the bottom of the page, you're making a top level comment on the topic itself. If you click reply/quote then you're following up on that comment (making a comment on a comment).

The forums are configured so that comments are flat (i.e. not nested) and the most recent comment is at the bottom. The front page is different. There, replies are indented and appear immediately under the comment being replied to.

My favorite conspiracy theory is the 23 conspiracy (I knew about it before the movie, too).

The 23 conspiracy basically states that everything in life can be linked to the number 23, and because 2/3=.666, everything in life can be linked to the devil.

Some examples:
9/11/2001 (9+11+2+0+0+1=23)

The Atom Bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima was dropped at 8:15 AM (8+15=23).

2x3=6 and the first six digits of pi add up to 23 (3+1+4+1+5+9=23)

William Shakespeare: Born and died on April 23rd

Psalm 23 is one of the most quoted passages of the Bible

The Koran was revealed to Mohammad over a 23 year period.

The sum of the first 23 prime numbers is also divisible by 23 (874/23=38)

Dr. Pepper has 23 delicious flavors Cool

Anyway, you get the idea.

I just read this comic today.

All I could think was, "Of course Tesla was ahead of his time. He had an Apple of Eden to help him out. All his inventions were great for mankind. And for that, the Thomas Edison discredited him so that the Templars could turn a profit and control mankind. Also, it makes sense that he'd go insane looking at the Apple for all those years."

I think I need to get out more... or study REAL history. Puzzled

The word Tesla makes me cringe. It is the unit of magnetic flux density (B) and just reminds me of physics, for which I have my last exam in four weeks...

What about the conspiracy theory that says George W. Bush and his father, before him joined a secret society that was started in Yale I think? All I can remember is that it was a board of university braniacs (if not mistaken, been a while) that controlled the outcome of who would be controlling what, and where in the world when their time came to rule. Basically they manipulated their position in life to be where they are today. Skull And Crossbones, they were called. Anybody heard of this?

Skull and Bones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_and_Bones

Would you like me to take a picture of the building? It's here at Yale. It's no longer a secret society. That is, people know about it. The building does, however, have no real way to peak into it. The windows on the first floor are built in such a way to let light in, but too narrow to actually see inside.

Funny story... turns out I took 8 pictures of the wrong building... I thought for sure it was the building they meet in now, but they may still meet in the actual tomb... I will look into it some more for you, Throat.

Try this one on for size.

Disclaimer: I do NOT want a religious debate. I'm just stating facts and beliefs. Take it as it is meant: entertainment.

The Book of Mormon >> gold plates, Urim and Thummim, Sword of Laban, Liahona... all has POE written all over it.

I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). For those unaware, let me go through the back story of how the Book of Mormon came to be, and some of the conspiracies and connections from the early days of the LDS church (The Church). I will start with the current belief and history from the perspective of the members of The Church, and will assume you know nothing, or have been gravely mis-informed.

What is the Book of Mormon? Where did it come from?

mormon.org wrote:
The Book of Mormon is the word of God, like the Bible. It is Holy Scripture, with form and content similar to that of the Bible. Both books contain God's guidance as revealed to prophets as well as religious histories of different civilizations. While the Bible is written by and about the people in the land of Israel and surrounding areas, and takes place from the creation of the world until shortly after the death of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon contains the history and God’s dealings with the people who lived in the Americas between approximately 600 BC and 400 AD. The prophets in the Book of Mormon recorded God's dealings with His people, which were compiled by a prophet named Mormon onto gold plates. Before these faithful Christians perished, their record was safely hidden away. Joseph Smith obtained these ancient records in 1827, and with the gift and power of God Joseph was able to translate the ancient writings into what we have today. The Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, testifies that Jesus Christ is our divine Redeemer and that by living according to His gospel we can find peace in this life and eternal happiness in the life to come.

Alright, regardless of where this all comes from, these are the beliefs. Joseph Smith didn't just find these gold plates though. Along with the plates, he found the Urim and Thummim, Sword of Laban, Liahona... all of which have Piece of Eden written all over them... if we decide to suspend reality for a bit.

Let's start with the Sword of Laban:
According to LDS belief, a young warrior (Nephi) stole a sword from the evil King Laban while he was passed out drunk. It was made of "precious steel" and had a hilt of "pure gold." Not only did Nephi slay Laban with his own sword, but used it as a prototype to make several new weapons for his people and their defense. This one particular sword shows up all through the Book of Mormon, across 1000 years. It was passed down to kings, prophets, and warriors. Basically, whoever was in possession of this sword (except Laban, ironically) was able to lead his side to victory. Eventually, it was hidden away with the plates and was found by Joseph Smith.

On to the Liahona:
The Liahona was a compass of "curious workmanship" (a brass ball with two spindles) that helped lead the settlers of the Americas here after their escape from Jerusalem. It worked not as a magnetic compass, but instead one spindle pointed the direction which they should travel. In addition, instructions from God periodically showed up on the brass ball. It worked on faith and diligence in keeping the commandments from God.

Urim and Thummin:
The gold plates which became the Book of Mormon were not written in English. Nay, they weren't written in any language. Basically, meaningless symbols. This is where the Urim and Thummin come into play. They are essentially two small stones bound up like the lenses of glasses. The stones were themselves touches by God and could essentially translate anything from any language. By many early accounts, they were thin enough to be transparent. The are "an instrument prepared of God to assist man in obtaining revelation from the Lord and in translating languages." Joseph Smith, reportedly, would look at the plates through these stones, then cover it up and allow for the translation to come to him. He would recite it, and it was written down by a scribe.

Now there are many conspiracy theories around the LDS Church. I won't get into all of them, but will mention a couple. There is a book that asserts "the Latter-Day Saints church (LDS) is organized to restrict individual freedoms, individual thought, independence and democracy" and that "the LDS has a disproportionate influence in such governmental departments as the FBI, the CIA, and the FCC."
Seems all too familiar, no?

Another fun one is the whole connection with the freemasons (which have their own set of conspiracy theories). The freemasons were not very tolerated in Western New York at the time of the forming of the LDS church. Joseph Smith and his brothers/dad/etc were reportedly members of the Freemasons. By creating a blanket religion they wouldn't be persecuted for their freemason ways. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormonism_and_Freemasonry

-----

Certainly seems like Joseph Smith stumbled upon a Great Vault of many precious Artifacts from Those Who Came Before to me...

In case ThroatnDagger still roams these parts... found the tomb (and time to take pictures of it) yesterday.

The first thing you notice is the lack of windows. There are only 4 windows on the front of the building, which have all been essentially blacked out, which are too high off the ground to even try to look in. There are no windows on the sides of the building. The next thing you notice is the security cameras by the door. I took a picture of the door, but sadly missed the cameras. On the door are two padlocks, and a flap door - presumably used to transfer documents, verifying identities and whatnot without needing to open the doors. The last picture is there to verify my Assassin identity.

http://imgur.com/a/rqKkZ

Also, the "wrong building" I took pictures of last time was inspired by the actual tomb; has the same long narrow windows and the same high levels of privacy. It might be a secondary building for the society, from what I've been able to gather.
