[ACII] Flow and Kill | Assassinating Carlo Grimaldi

The goal of this video is to eliminate every guard inside the palazzo while remaining undetected. My playstyle for this mission doesn't focus on completing it as fast as possible. I take out everyone in a different way while prioritising variety, roleplaying, style and the showcase of advanced mechanics and lesser known features.

The video also includes a few seconds of real life footage of Venice which was recorded by myself a few months ago, showcasing "real" history merging with animus sequences.

After Ezio lands on the rooftop I start by taking out the archer furthest away at the opposite end of the palazzo by using two unlocked throwing knives. Instead of relying on the lock on feature which is unavailable at that distance I use the 1st person camera to aim. AC2 doesn't have a cross hair but whatever is in the middle of the screen during the 1st person perspective will get hit. This is a useful trick to prevent auto-detection when using throwing knives and drastically increases the range but requires precise aiming. I move on and kill the next guard by starting a wallrun and immediately cancelling it with an air assassination which is a cool way to quickly expand the range of assassinations (especially useful for archers who have better hearing and detect you more easily). Another option to move faster without making any noise is to use manual jumps. I do this to approach the third archer from behind and eliminate him with a dagger.

After the cutscenes I use a back eject to quickly descend and catch a railing below to perform a low profile ledge assassination. Then I jump down into the courtyard and immediately low profile assassinate the guard who starts investigating the corpse that just dropped to the ground. After eliminating the next guard with a sword I hide behind a pillar and wait for the two patrolling guards to get close enough to a third guard in the left corner. Once they are in reach I stun all of them with a smoke bomb. This allows me to grab someone without being detected so I quickly kill both with a sword, followed by a high profile assassination on the last one. I decide to pickpocket a corpse to steal money that I use as a distraction for the next guard. Looting the body is not necessary but a nice roleplaying moment. The guard is lured behind a corner by coins without knowing that only a few moments ago these coins belonged to his colleague. The distraction effects of throwing money actually have a pretty far reach and are useful to keep in mind for manipulating guard positions. After that I assassinate the last two guards with poison and a high profile assassination after a quick drop from a beam. I like the thought that the guard closest to the Doge who's supposed to protect his life has been poisoned just like the Doge himself, but by a different kind of assassin. It's ironic. The doge only realises too late, maybe he should've listened when he had the chance.

For the assassination of Carlo I chose to showcase a very rare glitch, something that I've only seen in 3 other situations during 750 hours of playtime: triggering a hidden blade combat finisher outside of combat. In this case it seems to be connected to a railing blocking the direct path between Ezio and his target. However, he is still in assassination range so pressing armed hand consistently triggers combat finishers instead of regular assassination animations. Not necessarily useful but still a very stylish trick, probably one of my favourites. To be able to grab Carlo you first need to make sure he's not at full health anymore, a throwing knife tends to work best here.

Silent Worship Shortcut

Like the title says, a shortcut for silently killing all the guards in the Sistine chapel. Here's the original video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SbI69x0YiA&feature=plcp

Setup
The only weapon you need equipped for this is poison. I start with the brute at the upper left of the room. Blend-walk out of a group to poison the brute without getting detected (stick by the wall to avoid getting seen by the other brutes). Now walk along the wall and poison the other brutes on that side of the room from behind. After that walk straight across to the other side of the room. The brutes there will see you until you blend back into a group. Blend-walk out of that group and repeat the process. The last brute is blocked off by a structure, so I run to poison him. You can expect for him to exclaim from seeing you, but usually he's poisoned when you're still anonymous.

Now for "killing" Rodrigo. Here's a way to "kill" him with one of the brutes' weapons. This will cause a glitch (not shown in video) with the scene after the memory corridor scene. This glitch was shown before in a video.

However it was done with a heavy weapon outside of the Chapel. It was originally thought you couldn't kill him with a weapon in the chapel. This is because you have to jump from the high place and immediately attack. Running at him with the weapon and attacking will result in desynchronizing during the kill animation. So here's what to do: At the place shown in the video do a wall run and grasp the structure. There's a good chance the weapon will get stuck in the structure. Now climb on the ledge at the place shown, which will have Ezio in a standing positon. From there you can pick up the heavy weapon (make sure you're past the corner of the structure or Ezio will grasp the structure when you press the Empty hand button). Now you can make your way to the high place without having to drop the weapon. You can probably also use this method to bring the papal staff out of the Sistine Chapel.

Upward Mobility Blitz and Stealth Kill

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wukt25Zj0cE
[Front-paged by stabguy]

Upward Mobility is an assassination in sequence 13 Florence. Basically you chase the target while some guards come after you.

Blitz
The fastest way to kill this target (without even moving!). At the beginning of the assassination mission the target is close enough to lock on to. The game switches your weapon to fists after the cutscene, so you will have to bring up the weapon wheel right away. After that simply lock on and shoot. I did not use throwing knives because Ezio will automatically throw them at the guards coming at him.

Stealth Kill
For this mission you are detected right away. I avoid this by bribing a herald to teleport me away from that spot. Now when I start the mission I am anonymous. However you become detected when you have a clear sight of the target, making it near impossible to kill him while remaining anonymous. I do the next best thing- remain unseen by any guards that are alerted to me. When I am first detected the minimap is yellow, indicating that the alerted guards haven't seen me. Right afterward I blend in with a group of thieves and go into superblend to be hidden. I messed up a little and almost desyncronized, but it all eventually turned out good with an in-your-face assassination that had a nice result. Cool

A quick way to eliminate most of the guards in this mission while remaining unseen is to hire the mercenaries to fight for you. Guards will automatically join in the fight if they can see the battle, so all you have to do is get the battle started in a central location.

This video demonstrates a weird glitch with AC2 that allows you to finish the Francesco Salviati without killing him, and without the post-assassination cutscene.
At the end of the mission, Francesco simply vanishes in thin air, and the mission is complete.

After you leave the area, the gate to the compound is no longer modeled in the game. The developers forgot to put it back in place when you return. This mission is loosely related to "There is no spoon"-type missions:

Still Life - Dynamic Stunt
The target circles around the yard untill he sees something suspicious, at which time he flees to a waypoint on the south side of Palazzo Pitti. This gives a brief opportunity to perform my favorite type of stunt - where both you and the target are running full speed toward the stunt location.

Meeting (Mysteriously) Adjourned: Differential Notoriety

Differential Notoriety

The five targets in the Meeting Adjourned mission are dispersed in a small room with many guards, which makes this mission seem like an unlikely candidate for anonymous poisoning. Fortunately, the developers made an unusual choice in the design of this mission: The room is not a high alert area. Instead, they elevated the awareness levels of the targets so that they behave as if you were Notorious, which is functionally similar to making the room a high alert area - except that the developers did not change the guards in the room correspondingly. As a result, the targets and guards behave differently in this mission, which is what I exploit in this mission design to poison all of the targets while remaining unseen (no yellow bars) to all of the guards.
