I've loved this book since I read it in my freshman year in high school. Now, it's being made into a movie. I've always wanted to see this as an epic film and still need to read the other books. Anyone else remember this amazing story?

Pretty average length for a novel, I would say. It takes place in the future where humans have become a collectively militarized race, defending itself against bug-like aliens. The main character is a young boy named Ender. He ages several years through the novel. Most of the book shows his training sessions in the "boot camp" he's in, which is, if I recall correctly, a travelling space station.

The most effective parts of the story are the emotional bits. They're very powerful. My favorite character has to be Ender's sister. She's incredibly intelligent and is the voice of the reader most of the time.

Take it from me, if they do this correctly, it'll be an epic.

Ahem..."that word".

To live is to suffer. To survive is to find meaning in the suffering.

I used the proper term calling it "an epic", not as a random adjective. Wink

That movie will likely be horrible unless Orson Scott Card keeps large control of it.

I actually preferred Ender's Shadow at the time I read them both a few years ago (I really should re-read them). It is a "co-quel", I guess. It follows a different perspective during the same major events; however it didn't rehash like similar attempts usually end up doing. Ender's Game focused on Ender and the story; then Ender's Shadow revealed subtler side-details that I found interesting. Also, Ender's Shadow was a brilliant contrast of perspective to Ender's Game.

Definitely read Ender's Game first, though. Ender's Shadow builds off of Game, I'm not sure it would have been as good without reading Ender's Game first.

Scott Card's Pathfinder book is also very complex and interesting. The end comes together beautifully, although it drags slightly in the middle. Can't wait for the sequel to come out this Fall.
