I recently picked up Mirror's Edge and so far its pretty good (although I've literally only played about 30-40 minutes). I'm finding it really hard though as I seem to suck at building up momentum, finding the right path and playing the game in general. The whole constantly falling to a painful death and repeating the same annoying jump/wallrun/climb is beginning to put me off and I have a feeling I'll start to hate the game.

I think the main problem is that, despite being of a similar style to AC, the free-running is completely different and the controls are more complex so I'm finding it hard. Basically I'm pretty useless at the game so I want to know any tips that will help and see what others who have played the game think. I understand that its a pretty good game but I just can't get the hang of it and each section becomes a bit of a chore after being repeated 5+ times Tongue

So yeah, any help would be useful. Thanks Smile

The same reasons are why I didn't like the game either. The controls aren't as simple as they should be and the replaying of failed missions got repetitive fast. I didn't even try to finish it. I put the controller down about halfway through the game.

I'm starting to think that may be what will happen (although the section I'm currently stuck on has a simple solution I didn't notice which may temporarily ease the annoyance) as its really just a case of trial and error if you want to escape, or getting shot if you take time to find the right path.

Its also annoying how many forums I've looked at for tips are full of gamers on their high horses going on about how its not hard and you have to think and practice. I don't mind doing that provided there is a chance to practice without being shot and without unnatural, complex controls.

I will persevere, but not for long. And I'm glad you agree with me.

The people saying that it's easy and everyone else is just stupid probably play it all the time or are so used to games like that, that they're opinions on video games are vastly different than regular players'. Basically, they have no lives. Smile

Haha yeah probably. I read an article comparing it to PoP and AC so people were annoyed at the comparison saying it wasn't like those games. I would agree but think thats a bad thing as they are decent games. Mirror's Edge is not bad but there are some massive flaws (mostly dodgy controls). I'm going to keep playing it for a bit and hope that the sequel will improve Smile

I know this part of the forum is old :')

Bought a copy of Mirror's Edge for $9.99 which to say isn't a bad price for this game.

Loving the time trials kinda reminds of Gran Turismo for some weird reason Tongue
At first "Whaat the he** a 5 hour game with a whole bunch of boring time trials" then strangely started to really enjoy the aspect of finding new paths in order for a shorter time.

I'm awful at the time trials.. 1 star or 2 stars
Always get this feeling with Faith that I'm lost, probably because it's in first person view, while so much more used to third person view.

Also I really don't rant but sometimes I feel the console ports with controls are delayed with this peculiar game. Like for example:
U-Turn (Trophy/Achievement) The analogue sticks on PS3 makes it so hard to turn Faith, every time I turn Faith always loses momentum (even when turning the sensitivity all the way up).

Mirror's Edge is a console game between fun too frustrating.

I've never played a game before that managed to make me as angry as Mirror's Edge did. Although it is designed to be peaceful. Laughing out loud So many times Faith has fallen to death, sometimes due to a bug. And body fighting is just ways too unfair, the AI runners know which buttons you press even before you know.

One trick I've found out was to look at the feet before jumping, to get a feeling for the right moment. Not only jumping off roofs, but also over fences.

Another trick was to watch the fastest online ghosts of other players (time trials or so), which sometimes show new ways or moves.

Some good tips there actually, Granjow. I've been quite tempted to give ME another go beofre ME2 is released, depsite knowing it'll frustrate me once again.

I'd have to agree though, about it being the most frustrating/angering game ever. The clean, blank city with random splashes of colour looks really cool but Faith's failure to move through it fluidly (or rather my failure to translate over-complicated and annoying controller movements into fluid free-running) completely ruins the atmosphere.

The game has plenty of potential and is a great concept. It's just a shame it was made so inaccesible to anyone other than those who wish to slog away at each and every jump, turn, climb etc. before finally getting it right once in a million attempts Tongue

Ah, thats quite disappointing really. Not a huge loss as I certainly wouldn't be getting it on release but I would quite like to see what they'd done with the series Puzzled

It's not really cancelled. They just said that DICE is not looking to start (or finish) the project anytime soon as they want to get done with Battlefield 3 as soon as possible. Now I know it doesn't dismiss Byas' post, but in an statement issued to 1up they said that "it's an important franchise", further adding up to the possibility of a sequel.

Oh cool. I'm glad they're at least considering the series at some point. As I said, it has potential and while it'll never be one of my favourite game franchises, I'm curious to see where it goes.

The iPod Touch version of ME is actually pretty fun and, although the graphics are kind of horrible, it's pretty easy to play and helps pass the time. I prefer the first person aspect of the console game but I suppose a sidescroller looks a lot better on an iPod Smile

Has anyone achieved 90 stars on the Time Trials? Just completed it today, not even gonna try 99 stars but since PSN been down I've been finding this game soo much fun.

Truly the hardest aspect of this game isn't the controls...pressing PS3 L1 button PS3 L2 button PS3 R1 button (PS3) & Xbox left bumper Xbox left trigger Xbox right bumper (360) but the animations with Faith.
This game taught me something... just because it's "frustrating" doesn't mean it's not fun.
